I really couldn't help doing a double take recently when a beautiful Honda CBX-6 pulled up beside me at a set of traffic lights on Kingsway, Manchester, a couple of miles from Hunts showroom.

As it purred away I noticed the registration plate (CBX 6) and for a moment I thought I must have travelled back in time to 1981 and that what I'd seen was a Honda UK press bike out on test. Pulling up outside Hunts I joined the group of customers who were already admiring the bike which owner Ian Shaw had booked in for it's annual MOT.
 
 
The bike is a beautiful 1981 Honda CBX-6. Acclaimed as an engineering masterpiece in contemporary press articles, the heart of the bike is a 6 cylinder, 24-valve double over head cam 1047 cc motor producing a little over 100bhp. Launched in 1979, the CBX went through several model changes until production ended in 1982 with a sports touring version offering Honda's Pro-Link suspension system.
 
 
Ian explained that he has owned the bike for several years and that it is almost completely original with less than 6000 miles on the clock. Other than rebuilding the carbs (6 of them don't forget!), he has had to do little to it to keep it on the road, and indeed uses it fairly regularly.

It really was a delight to see the bike and thanks to Ian for bringing it along!
 
 

Hunts MD (and classic Honda enthusiast!) John Brown offered the keys to a brand new CB1000R, but Ian wasn't going to be persuaded to part with his CBX!
