A young man with ambitions to follow in the footsteps of his road racing heroes is Stockport based Jordan Thompson. After several successful seasons in the competitive world of Mini Moto racing, Jordan will be supported by Hunts Motorcycles as he makes the move onwards and upwards in British junior road racing.
Jordan started minimoto racing in 2003. In the Winter Indoor GP Series he achieved 2nd place overall. During the summer of 2004 he came 3rd in the summer series and by the time the 2004 winters series came about he had his sights set on the international minimoto event to be held in Spain in March 2005 where he took 1st place in the 4.2bhp category and 3rd place in the Production class.
It was always Jordan's wish to move to road racing with full size machines. In May 2005 he got his ACU licence and started racing a Jawa 80cc GP machine on circuits including Mallory Park, Darley Moor, Three Sisters and Anglesey.
In October 2005 he was asked by the Lybro team of Liverpool to ride one of their Derbi 80cc machines in the JRA (Junior Racing Association) meeting at Three Sisters Circuit where he gained two first places.
Whilst at the Three Sisters meeting, Jordan was seen by John Davies, a former British 250GP championship rider (JDF Racing). He asked if Jordan would consider competing in the highly competitive Aprilia Superteen Championship, teaming up with existing rider James Folkard. Needless to say, Jordan jumped at the chance, not only because this series is where many of today's sucessful racers have come from, but because he can learn such a lot and gain valuable guidance from John Davies.
So to summarise his 2005 season, Jordan has gone from novice beginner to being able to ride with the front runners. He is looking forward to the Superteen Challenge with JDF Racing.
Jordan's goals for the future are to compete and challenge at the highest level in either World Superbike or MotoGP.
