Hunts Motorcycles are delighted to support Olivia Dowling who is taking part in this year's Playtex Moonwalk which takes place in Hyde Park, London on Saturday 17 May.
Olivia is the wife of Blue Knights chapter member and Quartermaster Peter Dowling, and the Blue Knights England V Chapter have agreed that a project to raise funds for breast cancer should be accepted as their charity for 2008.
Walk the Walk came into being 10 years ago, when just 13 women power walked the New York marathon in their bras to raise money and awareness for breast cancer research. Since then, the event has blossomed into a thriving charity, raising to date in excess of £35 million for breast cancer research and care. Walk the Walk’s flagship event is now The Moonwalk and is the only Power Walking Marathon in the world that starts at midnight with thousands of dynamic women wearing bras. The event takes place in central London, commencing at Marble Arch.
One of the reasons for Olivia's intense interest in Breast Cancer charities is that for all working life she ran her own lingerie business and during that time developed a particular skill at fitting prosthesis for ladies who had undergone mastectomy operations. She had, therefore, experienced first hand, the physical and emotional problems of those lady patients.
Having placed her bid to participate last autumn, she had now been accepted and it is down to her to raise the sponsorship commitments. John Brown, M.D. of Hunt's Motorcycles, Manchester, had pledged his support, as has Laney, who runs the cafe at Manchester Harley Davidson.
