Honda NX650V Dominator

When you walk through the showroom door and spot our 'new' RC30 and the Dream 50 that is suspended from the ceiling, you'll immediately recognise that boss man John Brown is a classic Honda enthusiast, though his ideas on what constitutes a 'classic' bike might not necessarily fit the norm! - Whilst many may hanker after a mint '69 CB750 (complete with sandcast cases of course!), or maybe a CR110 or two, John loves his 'modern day' classics just as much*. When he recently announced to the lads in the workshop that he'd just taken this NX650 Dominator in part exchange and was going to keep it, nobody expressed any great surprise!

John takes up the story. "I've always loved the 650 Dominator and had several as demo bikes over the years. They were a great bike - a little less refined perhaps than the Transalp which came later, but surprisingly good both on and off road. They have a great riding position, legendary Honda reliability and were simply a whole load of fun to ride. Despite last being produced back in 2002, the Domi still puts a big grin on your face when you fire it up".

So what about this particular example? "This one is a 1998 model which came in part exchange against a new CBR600R from a chap who had owned it from day one. It's done less than 4000 miles from new and seems to have spent most of its life stored in his garage. It's almost totally original and rides perfectly." A quick call upstairs to the Hunts parts department had a few cosmetic bits and pieces on order as John's intention is to return the bike to as near to 'as new' condition as possible. "We'll probably rebuild the wheels as there is a little surface rust on the spokes as the bike has been stood, and the exhaust cans have been painted black so they will be replaced with new ones. Other than a few replacement fasteners and some minor odds and ends, there is very little to do to bring it back to showroom condition, though the intention with this one is to ride it rather than have it on display".

Pics here are as the bike arrived, but keep an eye on this page and we'll upload some more as the bike is 'restored' (updated: please see below!).

*Let us know if you have a 'classic' Honda that you are looking to sell. We may be interested in buying it from you. We are particularly interested in finding very good examples of smaller Hondas including a mint Honda Cub, an SS50 moped and (would you believe!) a Honda Caren scooter (Please give us a call or send a message if you know of a really good one for sale).

Update : The Boss gets his 'new' bike! - Hunts technician Andy Fyfe hands over the Domi to JB. As always, Andy has done a fantastic job in bringing the bike back to 'showroom' condition (the attention to detail is superb-the bike really does look like a new one again!). John will be using the bike in the coming months and has already put a few miles on it between the showroom and his home in Stockport.
