Hunts Classic Bike & Scooter Gallery

Gareth Elliott, John Brown and James Buckley

If you've been into the Hunts Motorcycles showroom you've probably noticed the classic bikes we have on display. Although now one of the UK's largest independent Honda motorcycle dealers, we remain first and foremost motorcycle enthusiasts and have never lost the passion for bikes and biking that we had when the business first opened. In recent years, our MD John Brown has built up a small collection of bikes and scooters of his own, some of which are included in our gallery below :

Please note : Unless noted alongside their description below, these bikes are not currently for sale.

An engineering masterpiece, Honda's 1962 50cc CR110 racing bike featured a single cylinder engine with gear-driven twin overhead camshafts and four tiny valves, producing its maximum power output of 8.5bhp at 13,500rpm, while there were eight speeds in the gearbox. Hugely successful in private hands, the CR110 was a popular choice for Club and National level racers in a 50cc class which was dominated by European manufacturers. Original CR110's are now highly sought after with most examples now in the hands of collectors and investors. In 1997 Honda's racing divison (HRC) offered a limited edition run known as the Dream 50R. Based on the roadgoing Dream 50, the 'R' version is a jewel. Weighing just 156lbs the bike features race-spec cams, valve springs and pistons, a six speed gearbox, 18" rims with sticky rubber and a nod to a more modern era with a single disc brake up front. Developing just 7bhp at 13,500rpm, the Dream 50R requires 'bump' starting and is not road legal.

This is a rare little bike! - It's a 1997 30th anniversary limited edition Honda Z50JV monkey bike. Having covered just 7 Km from new (probably from pushing it around!), this bike is totally original throughout, down to the tartan seat cover and chrome luggage rack. With a fanatical following all over the world, genuine Honda monkey bikes are becoming more and more collectible and this one is a lovely example that judging by the attention it's received in the showroom looks likely to gain a few more miles next year!

One of the latest additions to our collection is this lovely 1985 VF1000R which is a 1-owner bike that has covered just 5450 miles from new. The VF1000R was a limited edition superbike designed to provide Honda with a very competitive production racing machine. Though it was based on the VF1000F, the 'R' cost almost double and featured a fairing reinforced with carbon fibre, air assisted 41mm front forks with TRAC anti-dive, Pro Link rear suspension and floating discs with large four piston calipers. The V4 engine featured gear driven cams which allowed more accurate valve timing at high revs and contributed to the claimed 130bhp output, giving the VF1000R a top speed approaching 150mph.

The Honda RC30 is a legend. A true 'racer on the street' that saw countless successes in the hands of works teams and privateer racers alike, and as a road bike offered blistering performance and impeccable handling. Our RC30 is a 1989 UK bike (the higher powered version) which has never been run (the 2.2 miles on the clock is from pushing the bike around over the years!). The bike is literally 'as new' and has spent all it's life indoors. It is exactly as it was delivered from Honda and we have all the original handbooks, warranty documents and stand. Probably one of the only completely unused RC30's remaining, this bike is 100% correct in every detail. You can see the bike in our showroom or find out more here ...

This bike is a 2000 Honda VTR1000 SP-1. With a retail price of £10299 when it was new, the SP-1 featured a 998cc V-Twin motor which fitted the 1000cc capacity limit for the World Superbike series. Indeed in 2000, Colin Edwards won the Championship on his Castrol backed factory RC51. Far from being a 'homologation special', the SP-1 was a true production bike that could be bought by the ordinary rider, though it actually shared less than 10% of its parts with the more often seen Firestorm. Our road going version was supplied as a new bike and has never been run. It is currently on display in our showroom. You can read more here ...

A very recent addition to our collection, this Honda SP-2 is one of the last to be produced (in the final Graphite Black with black frame colour scheme) and is also a factory fresh unused bike. The SP-2 continued the racing tradition established by the SP-1 and is a very fine handling machine on road or track - a 'Superbike' in the truest sense of the word. Despite it's obvious race-breeding, the bike is very rider friendly round town, but it is on the twisties that the SP-2 really comes into its own. The 133 bhp 8-valve 90 degree V-Twin motor has spades of torque, and is the perfect partner for the sharp handling chassis. Although a modern machine, the SP-2 is already a true classic!

Our CBR1000 RR7 Fireblade is the last of the underseat exhaust model 'Blades. This one is in limited edition Honda HRC colours (just 175 were imported to the UK) and is brand new and un-run. A stunning looking bike and one which we believe is destined to be a future 'classic'. The bike is currently on display in our showroom.

This CBR1000RR9 in Repsol livery is a very significant bike in the development of the Fireblade in that it is one of the first 50 machines imported into the UK with ABS braking, a feature set to become more and more common on sports bikes. Described by respected road tester Chris Moss as : "... one of the greatest safety aids in motorcycling that I've ever experienced during my thirty years on bikes", Honda's C-ABS system is already proving to be a very popular option on our sports bike range. This Repsol RR9 is brand new and unrun and exactly as despatched from the factory.

Often referred to as 'The King Of The CB's', the CB1300 is a pure naked 'muscle' bike in the truest sense of the word. With its 1284cc inline-4 cylinder motor offering 114bhp and with torque aplenty plus excellent handling, the CB1300 is loads of fun to ride. The CB1300 has enjoyed an enthusiastic following since its introduction back in 1998 and is still a very sought after machine on the used bike market. Always a firm favourite of ours here at Hunts, we couldn't resist the temptation to keep hold of the very last new CB1300 that was delivered to us from Honda last year and it will make a fitting addition to our collection of modern classics.

Taking its inspiration from the legendary 50cc Honda RC110 race bike of the early 1960's, Honda's Dream 50 was a limited edition model produced in 1997/98. We've had this one from new and it has been ridden, but has just 18 miles on the clock. A jewel of a bike, our Dream 50 is the road going version (a race only Dream 50R was also produced) and whilst it's styling echoes that of an earlier age, the bike is fitted with a hydraulic front disc brake to make it a little more refined on the road. It's actually very pleasant to ride and it's retro styling and distinctive exhaust note certainly turns heads. Currently our Dream 50 is suspended from the ceiling in our parts department stairwell, so you're not going to miss it if you call in to the shop!

The Honda NX650 Dominator is a particular favourite here at Hunts. This one has covered less than 4000 miles from new and was part-exchanged against a CBR600RR. On arrival it was obvious that it was in excellent order, but needed some gentle 'restoration' from Andy in our workshops to return it to 'as good as new' condition. Since completion, John has put a few more miles on the clock and still loves the bike. As he says, they are not quite as refined as a Transalp, but still a great bike to ride. This one lives at home in John's garage and is used frequently.

This little bike has a story attached to it! - Looking for a suitable birthday present for his wife, our MD decided that a mint little Honda Caren scooter would fit the bill perfectly (John's long-suffering wife is called Karen-OK it's spelt with a 'K' but close enough!). That was his excuse to buy another bike anyway. We don't think Karen Brown has been to the shops on this little gem yet, but you never know! - A 1981 model, this is a Caren Deluxe model complete with electric starter and Honda V-Matic transmission. It's in lovely condition and has covered just over 3000 miles from new.

One of the last of a long line of Honda PC50 mopeds, this 1976 model is something of a 'barn fiind' (or should that be 'garage find'!). Discovered by one of our regular customers, this moped had been stored for many years and has covered less than 250 miles in total. A local bike that was supplied by the then Manchester Honda dealer Fosters of Chorlton and Cheadle, close inspection revealed our Parts Manager Dave Hodkinson's signature under the saddle (Dave worked at Fosters in the seventies). The bike is completely original (and runs beautifully as always!), it will soon receive some tlc and gentle restoration work from Andy Fyfe in our workshops.

Our little Suzuki CS80 Roadie scooter is a recent find and a real gem, having covered just 21 miles from new (we guess it clocked up those miles on delivery as it appears to have been garaged ever since). The bike is completely original throughout, right down to the 1987 tax disc from the supplying dealer. Why a Roadie? - Hunts was a Suzuki dealer in the 1980's and our MD recalls that one his first jobs was swapping the coloured side panels on Roadies, so he couldn't resist this one when it was offered!

A 1986 Melody Mini NP50D. This one will take you right back to the 80's, just make sure you're not in any hurry to get there, as with a top speed of somewhere in the region of 27mph from its 49cc 2-stroke motor, the little (it's tiny!) Melody Mini is not the quickest thing on two wheels! - Ours is a really clean and pretty much original example, which is quite a rare thing as we guess there aren't too many Melodys around any more, despite them being popular in their day. Have a look at ours next time you visit our scooter shop.

This is our 1975 Honda PF50 Novio-R moped. Sold in several countries throughout Europe, the Novio is a pleasant little bike to ride despite having just 1.8bhp on tap from its 49cc OHV 4-stroke motor. This one has been really well looked after, with just a little restoration work before we bought it, but is otherwise quite original. Interestingly the (factory fitted) headlight/speedometer combination was manufactured by Aprilia, who produced motorcycle parts and accessories prior to becoming motorcycle manufacturers in their own right. The Novio is on display in our scooter shop.
